About the Workshop

This hands-on workshop is designed to provide participants with practical exposure to the complete workflow of package design and prototyping for print production. The programme focuses on both semi-rigid and flexible packaging, taking participants from the initial understanding of package structure and production requirements through design development, costing estimation, prepress preparation, colour considerations and the creation of print-ready artwork.

Emphasis will be placed on learning by doing. Participants will be provided access to an institutional licence of professional package design software for one month during the workshop. They will work through practical exercises involving package layout, structural considerations, dielines, artwork placement, production constraints and prototype preparation. The workshop will also address how design choices influence material use, manufacturing feasibility, print quality and overall package cost.

By connecting design decisions with actual print-production requirements, the programme aims to help participants develop packaging concepts that are visually effective, technically feasible and suitable for efficient production.

Thrust Areas

  • Semi-rigid package design
  • Flexible packaging design
  • Structural layout & dielines
  • Package prototyping
  • Package costing estimation
  • Prepress requirements
  • Colour for packaging
  • Print-ready artwork preparation

Objectives

  • Introduce the functional and production requirements of semi-rigid and flexible packages.
  • Develop practical skills in creating package layouts, dielines and production-oriented designs.
  • Demonstrate methods for preparing physical or mock-up prototypes of package concepts.
  • Explain the basic principles used in estimating package production cost.
  • Build understanding of prepress, colour and artwork requirements for package printing.
  • Enable participants to prepare technically correct print-ready package artwork.

Target Participants

  • Students of Printing, Packaging, Graphic Design and allied disciplines
  • Faculty members and instructors in Printing / Graphic / Media Technology
  • Packaging and print-production professionals
  • Prepress operators and graphic designers working with packaging artwork
  • Entrepreneurs and professionals seeking practical exposure to package development
